Alan Syliboy is renowned for his use of Mi’kmaq petroglyphs (rock drawings). From this tradition comes his story of Little Thunder. Through Alan’s various forms of art, a viewer follows Little Thunder as he learns about his Mi’kmaq identity through stories from his Mother and teachings from his Father, Big Thunder. As a provider and soon-to-be Thundermaker, people can watch Little Thunder grow and discover how he made thunder for the first time.
This animated short, inspired by the Mi'kmaq legend The Stone Canoe, explores Aboriginal humour. We follow Little Thunder as he reluctantly leaves his family and sets out on a cross-country canoe trip to become a man.
